Hampta valley is a gorgeous valley in the Pir Panjal ranges of the Himalayas tucked near Manali. The Hampta Pass connects the Kullu valley with Lahaul valley. Hampta Valley is considered to be one of the most beautiful valleys in Kullu, with dramatic landscapes it is one go-to place for any nature lovers. This valley receives early and heavy snowfall during winters which makes it a perfect place for snow trekking and other winter sports.
The Hampta Pass trek during summers offers the trekkers with enchanting mountain views, green pastures, waterfalls, river crossings in the Kullu side of the pass and mesmerizing views of Lahaul valley once crossing the pass. During winters Hampta valley trek is known for the beautiful white snow-capped mountains and pristine powder snow. The Hampta Pass will not be accessible due to heavy snow but paves an amazing entry-level snow trek for the beginners.
Hampta Valley snow trek starts from Manali and will take you to some breathtakingly beautiful places in Manali. The actual walk starts from a place called Prini which will be the road head and is around 4 km from Manali. From Prini, the trek will lead to a small Himalayan hamlet called Sethan. After an overnight stay in Sethan, the trek continues to the place called Chikka and return to Sethan.
A snow trek is the best way to experience the winters in mountains. One gets to learn a lot of winter survival learning along with some amazing life lessons. This gives a wonderful opportunity to closely observe, feel and understand the harsh mountain life lifestyle of the local population.
Proper winter gears are absolutely necessary to complete the snow trek happily and safely. We ensure that a comprehensive gear list is along with gear purchase assistance is provided to every participant. Being physically fit and mentally prepared will make this Hampta Valley snow trek one of the best winter adventure for every participant.
Day 01: Arrive in Manali (2050m)
Orientation Session, Manali Exploration
On reaching Manali, its time to relax and make yourself ready for the upcoming adventure. Post lunch, our trek leader will provide team briefing and a quick gear check. After the briefing, you are free to explore the Manali town and do the last minute shopping if any. Remember in winters the Sun goes down early and it gets dark and cold soon. There are many amazing cafes in old Manali worth visiting. Finish your stroll and try to sleep early for a fresh start the next day.
Day 02: Manali - Prini - Sethan Village (2700m)
Distance/Duration: 20 Minute Drive / 3 Hour Trek
Today morning, after breakfast embark on a short drive to Prini. From Prini we start our trek towards the Sethan Village. From Sethan Village you get an uninterrupted view of white Himalayan ranges around. Evening we enjoy the bonfire if weather permits otherwise we sit around a Bukhari. The night view from Sethan is so mesmerising, you get to see beautiful starry sky and above and equally lit mountain villages below in the valley.
Day 03: Sethan Village - Chika (3080m) - Sethan
Duration: 4-5 Hours
Post breakfast, we start trekking to Chika, nestled in Hampta Valley. We will trek on a snow trail till the point it is doable. Then we will trek back on the same route back to Sethan. On arrival, you will be served with hot and steamy dinner along with the warmth of the bonfire.
Day 04: Sethan Village - Prini - Old Manali
Duration: 2-3 Hours
Morning, after breakfast you will trek back to Prini. From Prini again we make a short drive to Manali. On reaching, you can spend the rest of the time at your leisure and depart from Manali according to your scheduled plan
