This 7-day skiing course in Manali is designed for beginners, offering an immersive experience in one of India’s premier skiing destinations. Manali, nestled in the Himalayas, provides perfect slopes for novice skiers to develop their skills while enjoying breathtaking mountain views gradually. The course ensures a steady progression, from understanding basic equipment to confidently skiing on gentle slopes. Expert instructors will guide participants through essential techniques, ensuring both fun and safety. By the end of the course, participants will be able to manoeuvre on the snow with ease, gaining the skills necessary to pursue skiing more seriously.
Our participants will be taken to the nearby nursery slopes away from the crowded commercial slopes. This will help the participants focus more on their training and the instructor will be able to monitor and guide the participants in gaining skills.
The course covers all fundamentals, with hands-on training, drills, and practical experience on the slopes. Each day is designed to build upon the previous one, allowing beginners to improve their balance, control, and confidence. Participants will also get tips on understanding weather conditions, avalanche safety, and the importance of equipment care.
This course is perfect for adventure seekers wanting to explore skiing or those looking to enjoy winter sports during their vacation in the Himalayas. By the end of the course, participants will be equipped with the necessary skills to hit beginner slopes independently and even venture into more advanced skiing with practice.
Manali has got some great slopes which are best suited for beginners and advanced skiers and snowboarders equally. Moreover, Manali is very much accessible from Delhi both by road and air. As Manali is not a full-fledged ski resort compared to Gulmarg, accommodation and other facilities are much more economical. This makes Manali the best option for beginners. Once you reach a specific level of expertise, then you are free to practice it around the world.
Skill Learned: Familiarisation with skiing equipment and basic movement.
On Arrival in Manali, our team will pick the participants and drive to Solang, closer to our
skiing slopes. After freshening up and a warm lunch all the participants will gather for briefing
equipment familiarisation and ice breaking sessions.
On the first day, participants will be introduced to the ski gear – skis, boots, poles, and
bindings. Instructors will demonstrate how to wear, handle, and carry the equipment. Basic
movements like walking on skis, balance exercises, and posture alignment will also be
practised on flat terrain. This is essential to ensure that participants feel comfortable in their
gear and begin to understand their centre of gravity on skis.
Skill Learned: Mastering the correct skiing stance and gliding on gentle slopes.
The second day focuses on perfecting the skier’s stance—bending knees, leaning slightly
forward, and positioning arms correctly. Participants will also learn to glide smoothly on
small, gentle slopes, developing an understanding of balance while moving. This day will
help participants gain confidence in moving on skis while maintaining stability.
Skill Learned: Basic control of speed and direction using the snowplow technique.
Participants will be introduced to the “snowplough” technique, a fundamental skill for
beginners to control speed and direction. By positioning the skis in a V-shape, skiers can
control how fast they go while maintaining stability. This day will involve practising this
technique repeatedly on gentle slopes to ensure mastery.
Skill Learned: Turning and manoeuvring with the snow plough technique.
Building on the snow plough technique, the fourth day focuses on teaching participants how
to turn and change direction while skiing. Instructors will guide participants through gradual
turns on moderate slopes, emphasising control, precision, and weight shifting. This day aims
to develop agility and confidence while navigating down the slope.
Skill Learned: Linking turns and maintaining control during descent.
Participants will practise linking snowplough turns, which is essential for fluid movement
down the slopes. Instructors will introduce slightly steeper slopes to teach better control
while skiing down. The day will be spent on mastering this technique to allow for smoother,
more consistent skiing.
Skill Learned: Transition from snowplough to parallel skiing.
On the sixth day, participants will be introduced to the parallel turn, a more advanced method
for changing direction and controlling speed. This technique helps skiers move from the
beginner snow plough to a more natural and efficient style of skiing. Instructors will provide
drills to help beginners start linking parallel turns on gentle slopes.
Skill Learned: Applying all learned techniques on the practice slopes.
The final day focuses on putting all the techniques together. Participants will spend most of
the day skiing on beginner practice slopes, applying the snowplough, turns, and parallel
skiing. This is the culmination of the course, where beginners can enjoy skiing
independently, with instructors offering feedback and guidance to refine their skills further.
After the long run there will be the certification ceremony. After leaving the base in Solang
participants can spend some time in the Manali market for some shopping. Evening the
participants will be dropped in the Volvo bus stand to continue their further journey home.
